Second Life
Curated by Joey Yates
Through taxidermy and other uses of the vestiges of animate beings, Second Life explores the themes of preservation, death, and survival. The exhibit examines taxidermy in recent art history starting with the use of ornithological practices in the work of 19th century painter John James Audubon and the subsequent work of artists like Jochem Hendricks, Adam Fuss, and Damien Hirst.
Second Life reveals how artists are driven by the human impulse to give life to the lifeless, to reanimate the deceased, and to transcend the body.
